“The book of the generation of Jesus Christ, the son of David, the son of Abraham”—The book begins with Jesus Christ, just as the book of Revelation commences with the same Name. The particular Greek term translated here as “generation” and meaning birth or origin is the Greek word génesis and is used only once in the New Testament—here in this verse—and but once in the Old Testament, which according to the Greek translation of the Hebrew Bible known as the Septuagint is found in chapter 5 of Genesis and is in regard to the generation of Adam (when the Lord was on earth, He more than likely read the Septuagint). The one relates to the first Adam, the other relates to the Last Adam. They stand in contrast to each other.
