I exhort therefore, that, first of all, supplications, prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks, be made for all men;
For kings, and for all that are in authority; that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and honesty.
For this is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Saviour; Who will have all men to be saved, and to come unto the knowledge of the truth. —1 Timothy 2:1-4

In beginning our study on intercessory prayer, notice the word “first” in the above Scripture. Things work when we follow directions; therefore, we want to take the Bible literally and do exactly as it says. Too many times we say we believe in prayer and let it go at that. You could say you believe in driving an automobile, but that doesn’t mean you can drive one. You could learn a lot by studying a handbook on driving, but there are some things you never would learn until you got in an automobile and started driving. You learn by experience.
