Among the nine gifts of the Spirit there are three gifts of revelation, or gifts that reveal something: the word of wisdom, the word of knowledge, and the gift of discerning of spirits.There also are three power gifts, or gifts that do something: the gift of faith, working of miracles, and gifts of healings.
Then there are three gifts of inspiration—gifts that say something—gifts of utterance: prophecy, divers kinds of tongues, and interpretation of tongues. The Scriptures stress that the gift of prophecy is the most important gift. Paul said, under the inspiration of the Holy Spirit, “Greater is he that prophesieth than he that speaketh with tongues” (1 Cor. 14:5). So prophecy would have to be greater than tongues, “except he interpret.”
